“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!” (Galatians 1:6-9)
Joseph Smith either wrote the Book of Mormon himself, plagiarized it, or got it on the golden plates from an angel.
In any case, it is “a different gospel which is really no gospel at all” (vs. 6-7).
All false religions change three things:
1. Who Jesus is: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).
2. The complete work of salvation on the cross: “And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:10).
3. Salvation by grace alone: “And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace” (Romans 11:6).
Here is what Mormonism teaches about each of these three things:
1. Jesus became a god.
2. Salvation is by obeying Mormon rules, both positive and negative ones.
3. Salvation is by grace after all that you can do yourself.
