Ignorance in Abortion

The very nature of an effective lie is to make it sound true. The devil is the father of all lies. When he speaks, he speaks his native language. A liar does not say, “I am a liar; do not listen to me.” He speaks “the gospel truth.” A false prophet does not say, “I am a false prophet.”

If the truth teller says, “I am telling the truth,” and the liar says the same thing, then the listener has to tell the difference. The biggest alliterative lie of the last century are two innocent-sounding words Planned Parenthood. It is planned genocide, only the deaths come one at a time. Many people are choosing death, others are committing the murders, and not just a few people, but many, many others are endorsing the murders.

The U.S. Federal Government is subsidizing the murders with hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. With this support, it is easy for a 15-year-old girl to think that she is not doing anything wrong in having the abortion. She is more likely to think that getting pregnant was the sin.

This decadence is far advanced and does not look like it is slowing down. Here are a few suggested remedies:

• Change the laws so that abortion would be considered murder, manslaughter, or wrongful death. Even if such a law were passed, it is not likely that 15-year-old girls would be prosecuted, nor would the doctors be prosecuted. Such laws would be toothless.
• The best solution would be the salvation of the parents, the son, the daughter, and the abortionist. Where laws would not work, the Gospel of Jesus Christ does work. Hearts and lives are changed.
• Christian fathers should express more love to their daughters. Then daughters would not be looking for male affection. Read Saturation Love in How to Be Free from Bitterness, available here.

There are several types of spiritual ignorance that keep people in darkness about abortion:

• They are natural men. They do not have the Spirit of God. They are normal. “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor. 2:14).
• The enemy of our souls has blinded them. “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Cor. 4:4)
• They choose to remain ignorant of the will of God. “If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own” (John 7:17).
• They love darkness because they do evil. “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed” (John 3:19-20).
• If they are ignorant of the law, they think that they can claim innocence of the violation. “If a person sins and does what is forbidden in any of the LORD's commands, even though he does not know it, he is guilty and will be held responsible” (Lev. 5:17)

“I did not know it was wrong to marry an unbeliever.” At the time of the marriage, she did not want to find out. She wanted to stay ignorant. “I did not know the baby I was carrying was a baby.” At the time of the abortion, she did not want to find out that the baby was a baby. She refused an ultrasound. She did not want to find out that the act of abortion was immoral.

Why Is Obedience So Hard?

There are several reasons why obedience seems hard. I will comment on some of them and then speak positively on how obedience is easy. We think: 1) Obedience is an infringement on freedom. Since we are free in Christ, and obedience is somehow contrary to that freedom, we conclude that obedience is not good. Yet we know it is good. Thus, we become confused about obedience and are not single-minded. 2) Obedience is works. We who have been justified by grace through faith are opposed to works; therefore, we are opposed to obedience. 3) We have tried to obey and have failed—frequently. Therefore, the only solution is to disobey and later confess to receive forgiveness. It is easier to be forgiven by grace than to obey by effort. 4) We confuse obedience to men with obedience to God. Although these are sometimes one and the same (see Romans 13, 1 Peter 2-3, Ephesians 5-6, Colossians 3, and Titus 2), sometimes they are not the same (see Colossians 2:20-23, Mark 7, 1 Timothy 4:1-5, a

Lifted Up

In the first thirteen verses of John 3, Nicodemus did not understand what Jesus was talking about. It was nonsense to him. When Jesus said verse fourteen to him, Nicodemus finally understood Jesus. Here it is: “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up…” (John 3:14). The reason it made sense to Nicodemus was because he knew of the event that Jesus spoke of. People who had been bitten by a serpent could look at the bronze snake and did not die. Nicodemus knew the Bible story.   Here it is: “Then the LORD sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, ‘We sinned when we spoke against the LORD and against you. Pray that the LORD will take the snakes away from us.’ So Moses prayed for the people. The LORD said to Moses, ‘Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.’ So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyo

Getting Old

This is a post for those who are getting old or considering themselves old, from 65-100. Right now, I am 91.* I will be 92 in October. I have my own house, but I cannot live in it alone because of my physical inability to move around. One of my sons lives with me. All of us will have to make some adjustments. That includes money, relatives, your own ability and willpower to stay independent, etc. My advice is if physically and financially you can live independently, you should certainly do that. If you do, you will still need to have visits from your family frequently. You need your family. Even if you don’t need them to take care of you, you need them for the fellowship. The more fellowship you have, the longer you’ll live. If you can stay independent do it, but only if friends and relatives can see you often. In my case, I can’t walk, and I can’t do much physically. So, whether I like it or not, someone else has to get me up, get me showered, and get me dressed. I am blessed to have
