We are hearing people say over and over that people are basically good. We are also hearing from the same people, wondering out loud, “How could this Virginia Tech murder happen?”
Here are some answers from the Bible. The first child born on this earth was a murderer.

Jesus said in John 8:44, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
St. Paul said in Romans 6:17, 20:
“But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.” Romans 6:17
“When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.” Romans 6:20

Jesus came as the solution to the problem. If there was no sin he would not have come.
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:6
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
