There are words or events which are closely associated with each other but they are not the same thing; they are not synonyms.
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:24
“Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules.” 2 Timothy 2:5
Here are the words:
Run
Run to win
Strict training
According to the rules
Crown
Crossing the finish line first is not the same event as receiving the gold medal. These words are associated with each other. However, everyone who runs does not receive a medal. Gold medals have been taken away from winners because they violate the rules.
We are to train hard, run hard, and play fair in the Christian life.
The crown we receive in heaven will not tarnish nor decay.
The victory is here on earth. The reward is in Heaven.
